Football, Between Joy & Sadness
Isabelle Mauduit
“Fans frequently endure much more than the joy and happiness reaped from success”
What: A documentation of emotions generated by the world’s most popular sport.
Why: Thousands of fans gather weekly, annually, and every four years to witness ninety minutes of play, hoping that their team proves victorious. Analysing the impact of this theatre of emotions, Isabelle Mauduit shows that what matters is not the result but the emotional fluctuations throughout the game.
How: By dissecting in book form this environment where emotions are highly stimulated and entirely simulated. Each minute spans three spreads that identify the name and time of an emotional event, capture it in a ‘photographic window’, and conclude with the football commentator’s account.
