A Stone’s Throw Away
Ines Glowania
“When images are weapons of war, information is performed”
What: This project deconstructs one photograph of the Gaza protests of 14 May 2018, the day the US embassy relocated to the disputed city of Jerusalem.
Why: The Palestine-Israel conflict is covered with sensational headlines and dramatic camera footage, especially through digital media. We witness performances staged by civilians, soldiers and media. In her film installation ‘A Stone’s Throw Away’, Ines Glowania reveals how the conflict is packaged as an information product.
How: Countering the weaponised image of a conflict, the film reveals the performative signifiers behind news footage, and relates the heavily edited and constructed representation of news to everyday life. Ines’s human-scale installation draws spectators into Gaza, evoking the thoughts of each individual who has to see and reflect for themselves.
