Ina Klepper

IKEA is into sustainability; during her internship at this Swedish giant, Ina Klepper researched ways to re-use the company’s waste. Trying to solve the problem of unrecyclable ceramics – which has no second life once it is fired – she found a way to produce more with less. By adding IKEA’s textile waste to the clay, the same amount yields 11 bowls instead of 10. The added pulp not only makes the ceramics less heavy, but also leaves a remindful mark with more texture and a touch of translucency. To complete the sustainable cycle, Ina suggests to use the money that is saved to support IKEA’s Social Entrepreneurship programs in developing countries.
