Latent Sleep

Hamutal Hayun

"Based on an archive of dreams and nocturnal experiences of women who couldn’t fall asleep during the 2023 Israel-Hamas war, Latent Sleep explores the re-assembly of a collective experience, framing insomnia and dreaming as shared spaces and time.

The installation features a bright tapestry with animated dreams from the archive projected over it. Retelling and giving form to the dreams through a woven object, the designer positions it in space to discuss the role sleep can take over being awake. The project is a tribute to the idea that in our sleep and even in our sleeplessness, we can connect."
