The promise of freedom of information, expression and hierarchical society is what continues to draw us to digital media, even as we become aware of it being a mirage obscuring how opportunistic digital platforms are capitalising on us as if we were objects. The Virtual Kingdom of Negligible Objects presents a fantastical realm in which objects that otherwise have no digital agency are given an opportunity to explore their own existential questions about a future that aspires to be object-free. The resulting spectacle is jubilantly ridiculous and sarcastic. It mirrors our own feelings of irrelevance and anxiety that have arisen from digital reality’s empty promises.
