Equilibrium

Designers define a framework of criteria for themselves to ensure coherence and quality in their work. But too much thinking ahead can become an obstacle. So when Guglielmo Poletti felt himself being held back trying to define his philosophy of making, he freed himself from any pre-conceived concept and set to work intuitively, striking a balance between naivety and intellect, between a natural inclination for perfection and a growing wish to let go.

Attracted by basic constructions, his ‘thinking-with-your-hands’ approach led him to investigate the limits of materials, introducing unusual twists and tensions. His experiments resulted in a series of objects, titled Equilibrium. Each individual object represents a close connection between balance, tension, perfection and details. When zooming out, the perfect balance as well as the tension can be seen. When zooming in, the spectator finds new ways for appreciating, and engaging with, these artefacts; minimalistic at first sight, but the objects contain many surprising details.
