Sensing the Mountain-City
Sensing the Mountain-City explores the relationship between the Mexican city of Monterrey and the mountain range that surrounds it. As the mountains have been regarded as a site for resource extraction since Monterrey was developed as an industrial city, the city now faces socio-environmental backlash. Based on field research among residents of Monterrey, expert interviews, and material and film collected on the mountain trail, Gerardo Sandoval Osio developed collective walks between the city and the mountains, shifting the community’s approach towards these geological elements. Situating a new narrative between the mountains and the city creates regard for the mountains as geological elements that can become full members of the community.
