The City Is A Playground
Eric Treillard
A multifunctional mobile object that can transform unused urban locations into places to play streetball.
The City Is A Playground is a project that started when Eric Treillard was a child, when together with his father he put a hoop up in front of his house, and began to understand the mechanisms of the city through streetball. Based on his personal experience of living and playing in Paris and its suburbs, Treillard has designed an itinerant object that can be placed in unused locations, giving people who cannot access formal courts a place to play. Resonating with Henri Lefebvre’s writings on the imperative to reclaim existing spaces in order to produce new space, the project expresses the rhythm and contrast of Paris to its suburbs, paying tribute to its style and aesthetics of basketball courts and the strong culture of streetball.
