Paysage Local

Eléna Hervé Caro

‘Paysage Local’ is a tool to engage different groups of inhabitants of the same town and to reinforce social cohesion. It centres around a newly woven tapestry, referring to immemorial times in which people used to represent their cultures through textiles and large tapestries. The new tapestry embeds the stories and opinions that Eléna Hervé Caro collected through a survey among inhabitants. The answers translate into different weaving techniques that act as coded messages. Visitors to the exhibition of the tapestry receive a hand-out that works as a reading key and that spreads the message back to the inhabitants. “My aim is to re-establish, in a poetic way, a sense of belonging and appropriation towards our local territories,” Eléna says.
