Marquetry Production
To revive marquetry, a labour-intense wood decorating technique that disappeared after the industrial revolution, Dita Pāne has come up with a new way to give contemporary interiors a touch of elegance and personality. Using CNC-controlled laser cutting, she created ‘Marquetry Production’, a range consisting of decorated plywood furniture and wall/floor panels, made from locally sourced birch. Traditionally, expensive materials like tortoise shell and exquisite wood veneers were used for the ornamentation. Pieces could take years to complete. Dita offers an affordable update with a beauty of its own, a break from the straight lines and flush surfaces of post-industrialist design.
