Fridge design is mostly about the outside; on the inside each fridge is basically the same. Time for a new focus, says David Roman Lieshout: “Everyone has their own way of organising their fridge, which calls for a more flexible and personal design.” He rethought the traditional interior, leaving out the standard crisper and compartments – “Those are no longer needed with modern cooling techniques and packaging methods.” ‘Kibako’, Japanese for wooden box, is inspired by market crates for fruit and vegetables.
