The House of Clay
Colline Toutain
Through a series of workshops, participants built a hut made of clay by following guidelines painted as a mural.
“If you can build your house, you can build yourself anything.” That thought prompted Colline Toutain to do an internship and learn about clay construction. And she was ‘blown away’ by its expressiveness. In ‘The House of Clay’, she created a space for people to discover the material while exploring the borders between art and architecture. They master the technique by building a hut during workshops and performances. A painting on the wall guides them through the steps involved. Scale models help them realise how sculptural and fun the results can be. Her goal is to make people appreciate the simplicity of the material and the artistic expression possible in architecture.
