Ora
Ores come in many impressive shapes, textures and colours in nature. We mine these minerals for the metals they contain, a process in which their variety is lost. Clémentine Buffa seeks to reintroduce the ores' unique aesthetic qualities to mass-produced metals. ‘Ora’ is a furniture collection consisting of a table, a chest and a bench. Each piece draws on the textures of their main metal ores respectively: bauxite, malachite and hematite. Clémentine offers new ways to texture metal sheets that imitate the ores’ structures by using specific tools and techniques that introduce randomness in the process. In doing so, ‘Ora’ highlights the tension between standardization and uniqueness.
