Human Pelt

Chrissie Coerman

"Show the animal in you"

WHAT Tufted wearables inspired by animal pelts to impress others and distinguish yourself from the crowd, while also creating a shelter for the human body. WHY Pelts are synonymous with protection, warmth and a dramatic appearance. Chrissie Coerman explored how to recreate a similar effect in a human version through tufting — a technique usually only used for interior fabrics like carpets or rugs. HOW Through extensive material research, Chrissie was able to create voluminous forms and static silhouettes with the tufted loops. Revealing different yarns, patterns, colours, heights and densities, the pieces create abstract landscapes reminiscent of organic shapes. The eccentric pelts instantly transform the body into an imposing animal being.
