‘Well, we’ll ring each other up another day’
Ceola Tunstall-Behrens
If an installation is simply an empty space, what is there to see? What if the space itself is the object and the immaterial is the focus of attention? In Ceola Tunstall-Behrens’ audio installation, voices – recorded fragments from telephone conversations between a daughter and father – fill the space. The immaterial presence of someone, of something, resounds and weaves its way throughout the installation. A moment, a relationship. A space, a time. ‘Well, we’ll ring each other up another day’ is an inquiry into how acoustics and the voice can be used to create a body of space that simulates intimacy and introspection, that de-centres the gaze.
