The Voice in my Head

Cecilia Skog

The societal expectations that are projected upon many girls from a young age can be unrealistic and crushing. Slowly, these can turn into fears and anxieties that exist as an internal monologue, continuing to shape everyday behaviour even as an adult. Translating some of her own experiences of growing up into an animated short film, Cecilia Skog delved into her own experiences from six years old until today, drawing pictures of monsters to each represent a different manifestation of anxiety. By sharing a personal narrative, Cecilia wants other girls to know that they are not alone, challenging them to be the truest version of themselves, and above all, not to listen to the voices in their heads.
