Torsion Furniture

Benedikt Stonawski

Bending things has always been a tricky and time-consuming process in traditional design, requiring moulding and casting or expert carpentry. There are limits to what you can achieve with these techniques. It’s time to push those limits with 21st-century innovation. By teaming up with Viennese rapid prototyping start up Clever Contour, Benedikt Stonawski investigates the process of bending thermoplastic. This proves to be a highly versatile way of creating curves. He showcases what is possible in ‘Torsion Furniture’, introducing spirals and arches that would otherwise be very difficult to make. It is sleek minimalism with a playful, ornamental twist in the details.
